Each year, EWI of Milwaukee takes part in two scholarships . . . EWISP, ASIST.  The scholarship programs are funded by EWI of Milwaukee through various events including a golf outing, auction, raffles and annual Christmas Shopping bus trip to Chicago.

EWISP

The EWI Scholarship Program (EWISP) is an arm of EWI's Business/Career/Development Program, better known as B/C/DP.  The B/C/DP began in 1974 when Sears, Roebuck & Co. invited EWI to become involved in a community project to encourage the development of careers in business among high school students.  For 15 years, the program was co-sponsored and funded by EWI, Sears, Roebuck and Lanier Business Products.  It became fully funded and administered by EWI in 1989 under the exempt status of the B/C/DP.  Today, it is known as the B/C/DP Program and encompasses a broad range of educational and philanthropic endeavors.  It is administered under strict compliance with IRS rules and governing a 501c3 organization.

This scholarship is recognized by Money magazine as one of the top 12 scholarships opportunities in the United States.  EWISP allows selected students to compete at both the EWI Chapter and EWI National levels for scholarships.

To date, the National EWISP program has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to high school students from all over the United States and Canada.

EWI of Milwaukee opens its annual competition in December to all high school seniors of public, private and parochial high schools in the five-county Southeastern Wisconsin area served by EWI of Milwaukee including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties.

Each high school can nominate one senior student to compete (the student must be nominated by their school or teacher).  A packet provided by EWI is completed by the student.  The packets are then turned over to our esteemed panel of judges who narrow the field down to 3 finalists.  Finalists are then invited to the EWISP Banquet where the first, second and third place winners are announced.  In 2010, EWI of Milwaukee awarded $3,000 to the first place finalist, $2,000 to the 2nd place finalist and $1,000 to the 3rd place finalist.

ASIST

The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition Program (ASIST) provides financial support to adult students at transitional points in their lives.  Applicants may be single parents, individuals just entering the workforce or displaced workers.  EWI of Milwaukee works with MATC and UW-Milwaukee.  Four total ASIST scholarships are awarded - $2,000 to the first place finalist, and $1,000 to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finalist.

EWI of Milwaukee hosted its annual ASIST Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Pilot House at Pier Wisconsin on May 4th.  Over 60 attendees enjoyed celebrating the accomplishments and aspirations of our four award winners from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

Scholarship applications will be available for the 2011 program in January of 2011.  Please check this website at that time for an updated application and deadline for submission.  For more information on our ASIST program, you can also e-mail us at EWI.Asist@gmail.com.
